Silicon-calcium-barium alloys properties
Barium can effectively reduce the vapor pressure of calcium and increase the solubility of calcium in molten steel.
In the steel making process, if the Si-Ca-Ba alloy is used as a calcium source, as long as half the amount of the Si-Ca alloy is added, the calcium content can be twice that of the silicon calcium alloy. The stability of calcium in molten steel is also significantly improved.
This shows that barium protects calcium in molten steel and reduces the oxidation of calcium. Thus, the purpose of calcium treatment in the molten steel is achieved.
