Foundry alloys or Casting alloy,can be divided into two general categories:
- Ndularizer: Ferro silicon magnesium
- Inoculant: Ferrosilicon and Ferro Silicon Barium
Ferro silicon magnesium alloys are master alloys of Magnesium with Ferro and Silicon.They are known as "nodularizer",because, when combined with molten grey iron, they change the graphite flakes in the iron into spheroidal-particles, thereby increasing the iron's strength and resilience. The final product is known as ductile iron.
Ductile iron has agrowing market as a substitute for steel in applications requiring a lighter and more resilient material, such as in themanufacture of automobile and camshafts, steering gear, exhaust manifolds and cylinders, sprockets and machineframes,also in commercial water pipes. Ductile iron is lighter than steel and provides better castability than normaliron.According to the metals industry publication, "Modern Casting", growth in specialty alloy consumption is fast.
Ductileiron replaces steel in manufacturing applications,because now time all the customer need a stronger and lighter material.So now the Nodulizer have a promising market.
Ferrosilicon and Ferro silicon barium (without magnesium) are known as "inoculants" .Inoculants can contain any of a large number of combinations of metallic elements. They act to evenly distribute thegraphite particles found in both grey and ductile iron and refine other microscopic structures, Inoculants make a product
with greater strength and improved casting and machining properties.
